Joshua Boring

Joshua Boring was born about 1773. He was the son of William Boring.

He married Mary Heartsell. Mary was born on September 4, 1779 in Burke County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Jacob Hartsell and Hannah Anthony.

There were two Joshua Borings in Washington County at this time. It is difficult to distinguish one from the other in records.

In the 1798 Washington County tax list, one was in Captain Joseph Young’s Company (in 1801 was in Henry Taylor’s Company). The other was in Captain Morrison’s Company.

In 1809, Joshua bought 399 acres on a branch of Brush Creek from William Cox near Jacob Bowman’s and Robert Young. The witnesses Green Boring and Amon Boring.

In 1810, he sold 100 acres on Brush Creek next to William Cox and William Nelson to William Dugan of Washington County for $500. The witnesses were George Sanford, William Cox, and Green Coneray.

The same year he sold 200 acres near Jacob Hoss Joshua Boring and William Dugan to William Cox for $500. The witnesses were George Sanford, William Dugan, and Greenberry Boring.

And he sold 100 acres along the great road to Kathren Keehn for $100. The witnesses were Andrew Taylor, Abraham Hendry, and Jeremiah D. Gibson.

19 Feb 1812, Joshua Boring, assignee of John (Dorsey) Boring, land grant of 150 acres on Brush Creek, Andrew Wolf’s corner, William Boring’s line, Wheeler’s line & corner, surveyed 22 Jun 1813, granted 4 Oct 1815.

In 1812 Joshua bought 74 ¾ acres on Sinking Creek in Washington County from Nathaniel Taylor next to Caleb Odle. Witness James P. Tayler, John Naler, Green Boring

On November 6, 1812, Joshua sold 111 ¾ acres to Andrew Wolf for $670.50. Witness John Saylor, William Wheeler, and Joseph Wolf

In 1816 he bought his father's 76-acre tract for $250, witnessed by Horatio Ford, William Wheeler, and Joseph Melvin.

In 1818 he bought land from John and Dorcas Gaines, John Boring and his wife, John and Violet Swanger, Jacob Boring, Greenberry Boring, and Polly Miller. They were heirs of Absolem Boring. The 100 acres were next to Joseph Denton and William Boring Witness, Daussey Boring, Wezley Garret, and Ephraim Gain.

In 1818, he also bought 100 acres from Horatio Ford for $700. They were on a fork of Brush Creek near Joseph and Isaac Denton.

In 1819 he sold 15 ¾ acres on waters of Brush Creek to John Landers and sold 78 acres in Carter County on Sinking Creek to John McAfee, Andrew Wolf corner, up Sinking Creek, John Saylor’s line, Eller’s line.

In 1820, Amon Boring quit claim to Joshua Boring his claim as an heir of Absolom Boring
